Arts Camps

Summerside on the Hill’s Arts camps provide a wide range of categories for campers to explore and master. From woodworking to drama, painting, and machine sewing our creative and performing arts camps empower and inspire campers to create, be expressive and let their imaginations soar. Our Arts camps use SCH’s state-of-the-Arts facilities - with access to a kiln for clay making, a full functioning wood shop, amazing art studios and a beautiful surrounding campus to inspire our campers. Summerside also has camps for the Master Crafter of any age.  Dive into one craft or try them all, Summerside has something for everyone!

  • Fashion + Machine Sewing | Grades 5 - 9 | Weeks 1, 9, 10, 11

    Whether you are an aspiring fashion designer or a creative camper looking for new skills, immerse yourself in the wonderful world of machine sewing! Designed with older campers in mind, this program is all about choice and creative expression. Campers will be taught how to read and use a wide variety of Simplicity Creative Group patterns, our exclusive pattern partner. In addition to a catalog of over 20 patterns, campers get to choose from dozens and dozens of tempting fabrics to bring style and flare to every creation.

  • Fiber Arts | Grades 1 - 4 | Weeks 9, 10, 11

    Picture your child in the care of energetic and imaginative counselors exploring the world of needle-arts. At Handwork Day Camp, you’ll find campers sharing stories and laughs while working on a wide array of unique projects. Our goal is to teach useful skills such as, hand-sewing, embroidery, knitting, weaving,needle-felting, and much more! Campers are always free to express themselves and are enveloped in creativity and fun. Whether refining skills or learning brand new ones, our camp is sure to delight.

  • Ceramics Wheel Throwing | Grades 5 - 7 | Week 2

    In Ceramic Wheel Throwing, campers will learn the basics of throwing on the potter's wheel. Campers will create both wheel-thrown and hand-built objects and pots. The last day of camp is spent glazing their finished products. It will take some time to put all the pottery through the kiln, so campers will have to come back to pick up their creations.

  • Clay for Kids | Grades 1 - 3 | Week 9

    Campers will build clay animals, people, monsters, or princesses, choosing what they’d like to make. Each camper will use cardboard and paint on a wooden base to give their characters a special environment. The campers should wear clothes that can get messy—they'll be having too good of a time to worry about staying clean!

  • Crafts for Kids | Grade 1 - 3 | Week 5

    Designed for the creative camper who loves to craft! Campers will make a variety of crafts, such as friendship bracelets, jewelry, crochet projects, duct tape wallets, and so much more! Each day will have new activities and a take-home project.

  • Culinary Art: Farm to Table (LIMITED SPOTS) | Grades 3 - 5 | Week 5

    Campers interested in learning to cook who have an open mind about trying new things will love this camp. Chef Budd Cohen will lead your young chefs in a culinary journey around the world while focusing on local foods and farming. Campers will study kitchen safety, basic cooking and preparation techniques, garnish and presentation execution and culinary artistry.
    - Day one will focus on food principles, regional cuisines and a farm to table approach.
    - Day two we will take a farm to table field trip where are our students will prepare a farm fresh just picked menu in the field.
    - Days three and four our junior chefs will learn to prepare dishes from around the world including fare from the Far East, Mediterranean, The Americas and Northern Europe.
    - Day five our junior chefs will make a tasting menu to enjoy with parents, friends and guests at a mid-day soirée.

    All campers will take home recipes and an apron to show off their skills to friends and family!

  • Culinary Art: Farm to Table | Grades 6-8 | Week 7

    Middle School campers have some good appetites and if they have a appetite for cooking, entertaining, farming and food this is the camp for them. Chef Budd Cohen will take them on a culinary journey that will include learning to cook international dishes as well as American favorites with a focus on local farm direct ingredients. 
    We will study kitchen safety, basic cooking and preparation techniques, garnish and presentation execution and culinary artistry.
    - Day one will focus on food principles, regional cuisines and a farm to table approach.
    - Day two we will take a farm to table field trip where are our students will prepare a farm fresh just picked menu in the field.

  • Indigo + Natural Dyes | Grades 5 - 7 | Week 3

    Campers will be working with natural elements to create natural dyes! From indigo, to turmeric, to beets, campers will use their dyes to upcycle old clothes or to create designs on other fabrics.

  • Intro to Culinary Art | Grades 1 - 3 | Week 3

    Calling all campers with an interest in food and cooking who enjoy learning to prepare exciting dishes that can be replicated at home. Our junior chefs will be educated on kitchen safety, basic cooking and preparation techniques, garnish and presentation execution and culinary artistry. Chef Budd Cohen will expose them to some primary food history, food chemistry, farming techniques and nutrition basics.
    - Day one will focus on kitchen practices, food principles and regional cuisines.
    - Days two, three and four they will prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner items in progressive order.
    - Day five our junior chefs will make a tasting menu to enjoy with parents, friends and guests at a mid-day soirée.

    All campers will take home recipes and an apron to show off their skills to friends and family!

  • Loom Weaving | Grades 1 - 3 | Week 8

    Campers will learn to warp and weave on peg looms, using basic and advanced techniques, to turn yard into fabrics! Each camper can choose to make wall hangings, wallets/purses, mug cozy, and so much more.

  • Next-Level Crafting | Grades 2 - 4 | Week 3

    If you are ready to move beyond rainbow looms and finger knitting, and you want to move your art to a new canvass, this camp is for you! We will explore the world of duct tape, decoupage, and decorations through increasingly challenging and exciting projects! The culmination of the week will be when you have an opportunity to take a piece of furniture and completely reimagine it. Turn a desk into a cat bed! Give that bedside table a pop of color! Turn that pallet into a table! The sky is the limit. If you can dream it, you can build/paint/design it!

  • Theater Camp | Grade 2 - 8 | Weeks 2 & 3

    Campers will participate in all things theater in preparation for a Production on the last day.  From set design, costume decisions, auditions (every camper will have a part in the production), and so much more! 

    Cost: $950 (campers must attend BOTH weeks) Includes cost of costumes, set designs, make-up, etc.

  • Woodworking 101 (FULL)

    Campers will use woodworking tools such as a coping saw, electric drill, hammer, and screwdrivers as well as hardware like nails and screws to build a pencil holder, a Lego coat rack, and a treasure box. Previous experience with woodworking not required. After they have built their wood creations, campers will paint their finished products.
